Something isn't working? Try these steps first!

  1. Allow cookies and ads from MyBannerMaker.com. Many issues are caused by cookies being disabled or rejected. To solve this, enable cookies in your browser and disable Norton, McAfee, and any other software with anti-advertisement functionality (they think we're advertisers because of the word 'banner' everywhere). If you're not comfortable disabling any of them you can 'whitelist' MyBannerMaker.com in most cases.
  2. Update your browser. For Safari, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome, you will need the latest version of your browser in order for everything to work properly.
  3. Don't use Internet Explorer. It's a terrible browser with little support for web standards. It is the number one cause for spyware/adware/viruses that you get while browsing the web. This includes IE wrappers like AOL, MSN, and Avant. Use a more secure, modern browser. We recommend Mozilla Firefox, but Apple Safari and Google Chrome (Windows Only) are solid alternatives to Internet Explorer. Best of all, they're all free.

Is this site free? What's with the VIP thing?

This site always has been and will remain free. For users that desire certain additional features, we offer a VIP account for a small fee. This is not required to use the site and you're in no way obligated to sign up for it.

How do I remove the "Made with MyBannerMaker.com" from the banner?

To remove the branding bar on the bottom of the banner you have to sign up for a VIP Membership.

Can people see my banner? Can I make my banners private?

When you save a banner it is uploaded to ImageShack where anybody with the URL can see it. Without the URL, though, they wouldn't be able to find it. Since both us and ImageShack add random characters to the text, it is very difficult for anybody to find any images without the url.

However, when you save a banner it is posted up as a "Recently Saved Banner" on that page that allows other people to get an idea of what they can do to their banner. The page is really more for fun than anything. If you don't want your banner to show up here, though, you can sign up as a VIP and make your banners private with the click of a button.

Why aren't there free accounts?

Right now accounts are only available to VIP members that pay for the additional features. If you'd like to take advantage of some of the features available to VIP members, you have to sign up and pay the fee.

The banner preview isn't showing up!

The most common cause of a banner preview disappearing is advertisement blocking software being present on the computer. Norton, McAfee, and AdBlock are all known to block our banner preview by default. Disable them or add 'mybannermaker.com' to your safe/white list.

Can I upload explicit or adult content and create adult banners?

If the banner is inappropriate for children, you must sign up for a VIP account and mark your banners as private. Not only does this remove our branding so we are not associated with such content, but it prevents your banner from being shown on the "Recently Saved Banners" page which keeps it away from minors.

What if I send you spam/jibberish/something irrelevant?

You get banned as soon as we get the email...simple as that. We have a zero tolerance policy for people abusing the website and do what is necessary to prevent it from happening.

How do I reset my settings?

To reset your settings for any reason, first try to click on the 'Reset Settings' button just above the banner preview on the banner maker page. If the page takes a really long time to load, there is something preventing MyBannerMaker from deleting those cookies and you will need to delete them manually. IE users can do this under Internet Options, and Firefox users can do it in the Privacy pane/tab of the Options/Preferences dialog. After deleting your settings, click on the 'Banner Maker' link in the top menu and the preview should be reset to the default.

What types of images am I allowed to upload?

As noted on the upload box, you can upload JPEG, PNG, GIF and some BMP images.

I uploaded a JPG / PNG / GIF but it's telling me it's an invalid file format.

Every now and then a camera or piece of software will output something non-standard when they create a file. They might just set a 'switch' wrong in the file that identifies it as the wrong type, or they don't put the data in the right order. Some software can automatically detect and work around that, but others can't. Because of the security-minded nature of our software, however, ours can't do that. That means some images won't work, even if they appear to be an accepted format.

If you have standard image editing software on your computer, like Photoshop, you can open and re-save the image you want to upload and that should set everything right in the file to allow it to work with the banner maker.

How can I convert my image to a format that works with the banner maker?

Windows: For most image formats you can open the file in Microsoft Paint and go to File > Save As... and choose JPEG or PNG from the dropdown File Type menu.

Mac OS X: You can open your file in iPhoto and export it as a JPEG or PNG.

Linux: Depends on your flavor. Gimp works on most GUIs and will let you convert most image formats to JPEG or PNG without an issue.

Why is my photo getting stretched out when I upload it?

When you upload an image, the banner maker displays it at 700px wide so that regardless of the size of your image, you can see it on your screen to crop it. If you upload a small image, after you crop the image it'll be stretched out to fit the entire banner the way you specified in the crop, and that might look bad.

We do have plans for allowing you to upload multiple images and to use them as elements in the banner as opposed to just backgrounds. When that happens, you can upload small images and not crop or resize them at all if you don't want to.

My image won't fit on the banner!

The way the banner maker handles images, is by resizing them so that they cover the banner completely, and cropping off anything additional. Because overflowing image is cropped, instead of squished, it is likely that your image will not exactly fit the banner. The only alternative using the same image size and banner size, would be to stretch your image to fit the banner without concern for the ration of the width to the height, introducing distortion.

For example, if you upload an image that is 500x500 onto the banner that is 250x250, you can fit the entire image on the banner, but you will still be given the option to crop it. If you upload the same image onto a banner that is 500x200, you will have to crop off 300 pixels off the top and bottom, at the least (more if you do not use the entire width of the image on your banner).

In order to have your image show on your banner completely, you need to make sure that the image is the same aspect ratio as your banner. VIP members can use custom sized banners to assist in this.

When I upload an image it gets resized or stretched out on the crop page.

Because people often upload files that are excessively large or very small, we standardize the size of all images on the crop page to 700px wide. This means if you upload an image that is 468x60 to fit perfectly on a Full Horizontal Banner it will display at 700x102 on the crop page. You will need to then drag the crop handles out to the very corners of the image before hitting crop, and then your banner will appear with your background image appropriately sized at 468x60.

How do I get rid of the text on the banner?

Most of the text on the banner is customizable as part of the banner. Click on the text tab and you'll see a series of controls allowing you to change the text to suit your needs. To remove the branding on the bottom of the banner you will need to sign up to become a VIP.

How come text is still showing up on my banner?

Most of the text on the banner is customizable as part of the banner. Click on the text tab and you'll see a series of controls allowing you to change the text to suit your needs. To remove the branding on the bottom of the banner you will need to sign up to become a VIP.

Are VIP accounts going to stay the same $25 forever?

The price for a VIP account is not fixed and is very likely to increase in the future to cover development costs. That said, it is priced so that the majority of people can afford to get an account should they choose.

Nothing changes when I sign into my VIP account.

You need to enable cookies. You might also need to disable security software or ad-blocking software on your computer depending on how it is configured. You're being signed in, but your lack of support for cookies is preventing us from maintaining that session.

I just signed up and I can't get into my VIP account.

Chances are you either forgot your password or didn't let PayPal transfer you back over after you made your payment. If it's the latter (or you got a Failed error), you just need to get in touch with us so we know to activate your account by hand.

Be sure to include both the email address you paid with, and the email address your account is under. If you do not do this we cannot activate your account manually.

I renewed my VIP account but it still says I need to renew!

Since PayPal doesn't notify us on renewal payments, that responsibility is left up to you, the user. As noted on the renewal page, you need to send us an email to let us know you've renewed your subscription. Make sure you send us the email address you paid with as well as the email address your VIP account is under!

What is a rotating banner?

A rotating banner is simply 2 or more banners setup to switch after a certain period of time, thereby creating an animation or rotated banner. In other words, a rotating banner allows you to create multiple individual banners and put them together as one banner that flips between all of the individual banners.

Using a rotating banner you can do things like change the text on the banner, slide text across the banner, change colors gradually or back and forth, change the background gradient back and forth or gradually, make your text rotate around in a full circle, make your border grow and shrink, or change the background image while keeping the same text and colors. It's really just a matter of being creative.

The box for people to copy the code isn't showing up.

It could be a few different things. First off, it only works with the Normal type banner. That means header, masthead, and forum banners don't support it. Second, Myspace only allows text boxes in certain places. It works in profiles, but doesn't work in comments or bulletins. It might work in various other places around the site, such as forums, but it's untested and I can't say whether it will work or not.

How do I remove/delete my banner?

To delete or remove your banner from any HTML page simply delete the code for the banner. You do not need to delete the actual image/banner. It will be retained by ImageShack indefinitely. This is the only way to remove a banner from a page. We do not have access to the page you put the banner on and we cannot delete it for you. We do not have access to the image when it is hosted at ImageShack and we do not have access to your website or webpage to access the code.

How do I put the banner at the top of my Myspace?

Banners above the Myspace menu and ads are called header banners. To make one, select the Header Banner option on the save tab of the banner maker. Note: Because of the way MySpace handles profiles using their newer 'Profile 2.0' option, header banners cannot be displayed on Profile 2.0 profiles.

How do I make the banner go in between the ads and my picture?

This is called a masthead banner. You simply select the Masthead Banner option on the save tab of the banner maker.

Can I change the link?

Yes. Go to the Save Tab on the banner maker and change the link from http://mybannermaker.com/ to whatever you would like.

How can I get it to where other people copy the code?

Check the box on the Save tab. NOTE: The code box won't show up in bulletins, comments on your friends' profiles or photos. This is because of Myspace.

What is a banner 'type'?

There are a variety of different places for banners to go. Depending on where you want your banner, it will have different code. In order to distinguish which code you were looking for, we gave them each a 'type'. The following is a breakdown of the different banner types:

  • Normal Banner - Regular HTML. Works for most websites that allow HTML in the formatting, including sites like Myspace, Flickr, and your own website.
  • Header Banner - Goes at the top of a Myspace page and uses HTML and CSS to position it.
  • Masthead Banner - Goes in between the Myspace menu and your profile, and it uses HTML and CSS to position it.
  • Musician Masthead Banner - Since non-standard Myspace profiles have different elements, this banner has slightly different CSS code than the regular Masthead Banner code.
  • Forum Banner - Uses BBCode so you can put it in forums and other places that allow BBCode formatting.

The banner is covering the save button on Myspace!

This only occurs for non-standard profiles, such as Musician, Filmmaker, and Comedian profiles when you preview the code for a header, masthead, or extended network banner before saving it. To save code without previewing it, you need to edit your profile in "safe mode".

My extended network banner isn't linking.

Unfortunately, there's not a feasible way to make extended network banners link that is also compatible with a variety of profiles. If you need your banner to link, create a Masthead or Header banner instead. Of course, there is also the Normal banner as well.

How can I make my banner clickable?

You can make your banner link to your profile or website by putting the URL/address to the profile or website in the relevant box under the save tab. Note that you cannot link a banner that you choose Download on since the code is what makes a banner link, and extended network banners for Myspace profiles cannot be linked.

You guys should add more effects!

We would love to, but we're really not sure what to add that doesn't use animation. If you have any ideas for effects we could integrate into the banner maker easily that don't use animation feel free to get in touch and let us know!

You can also sign up as a VIP member and create several banners and string them together in a rotating banner to create your own animation. You can do things like change the text on the banner, slide text across the banner, change colors gradually or back and forth, change the background gradient back and forth or gradually, make your text rotate around in a full circle, make your border grow and shrink, or change the background image while keeping the same text and colors. It's really just a matter of being creative.

Why aren't there more animation effects?

In order to do animation in GIF images every frame is a totally new photo and they're all just strung together. Every frame means that the file size is significantly larger than it would be otherwise. It also means it's one more frame for our servers to process to get you your banner.

Flash banners are a much easier and more efficient way to do animation. While we might provide a flash-banner service in the future, we don't have any plans for one at this time so we recommend you either grab a copy of Flash and design them yourself or find a good Flash designer for them.

Why is glitter or blinking text not working for my image?

If your image is larger than 728px on either side (custom size banners only) we disable animation effects for performance reasons. Because the images are so large in filesize, it's not feasible to animate them and still host them with ImageShack. You can still select non-animation effects or reduce the size of your banner so that both sides are smaller than 728px and still utilize the animation effects.

My banner was working, but now it has disappeared.

Sometimes the servers that host the images go down for maintenance, making it appear that your banner is missing, has been deleted, or is just gone. Usually they come back up within a few hours to a day. If one of your images is down for longer than this and you're wondering why, you can send us an email using our contact form. Make sure you send us the URL to the image or we won't be able to tell you anything and we probably won't even respond.

When I save my banner, it's showing up as blank/black!

This is a complicated bug we've not yet been able to narrow down the cause of. It has to do with the way we use cookies and a database to maintain your user settings, and the variances in behavior from one user to the next. There is a lot of data to be passed between pages, and that contributes to the problem.

To resolve the issue, you can usually just go back to the banner maker and re-save your banner. If it doesn't work after trying that a couple times, you will probably need to resort to resetting your settings.

When I try to change the color Safari won't let me use the controls!

Safari and our color picker don't get along sometimes, and we've not yet been able to determine why since we can't replicate the problem on our machines. Part of the time Safari crashes when loading MyBannerMaker all together. That would be entirely the fault of the developers of Safari and WebKit, since it should be able to handle whatever it receives without crashing. I believe the two issues are connected. If you have any information on why this could be happening, feel free to share it and I'll put it to use.

The solution to the problem is simply to use a different browser. We recommend Firefox.

This applies to text, background, and border colors alike.

If this is still happening to you PLEASE let me know using the contact form. I believe this is fixed and unless there is evidence otherwise I won't be able to look into it further!
